When AperiTWeat was launched back in May, we quickly put together a twitter page and blog in order to spread the exciting news of the event, with the help of a logo familiar to fellow tweeps. We soon realised this logo didn’t quite reflect AperiTWeat effectively. So in order to differentiate AperiTWeat as the fun, tasty networking event that it is, we called upon the fabulous, artistic prowess of Axel Gutschenreiter (@Solaris100). Hey presto! We have a new logo, woohooo!

We think you’ll all agree, that our two chatty birds enjoying a Spritz and Italian Aperitivo, represent the AperiTWeater’s of London, Mumbai and New York perfectly!

We hope you like it and look forward to seeing you at the next AperiTWeat!

We’re happy to announce we’re more than ready to welcome you tonight at AperiTweat!

Just some quick reminders for those of you who might have missed relevant information.

Please consider that we will not be able to allow entrance if you have not already RSVP’d. It’s not that we don’t want you, it’s just that we can’t! So double-check and, please, please, please, let us know (just tell @aperitweat, a little bird will let us know…) if you cannot make it.

Do not rely on your mobile devices. Ely’s Yard is not recognised by Google Maps, and the correct postcode will lead you somewhere else. So aim for the RootMaster doubledecker-bus-restaurant. You’ll see it, we’re on the same square. Also, we’re literally next door to the Corbet, where Minibar meetups are usually held.

The Rootmaster. When you see it, you're a minute away from the best meetup in town - Courtesy of David Singleton on Flickr

Please remember that ShoreditchTwit will begin at 9.30pm at Big Chill, literally around the corner, so we won’t really be expecting guests after that time. This means, more practically speaking, that food will more than likely not be available around that time. The restaurant will still be open if you want to have dinner!

Also on timings, the festivities kick off at 6.30pm. We’ll be there to welcome you.

There will be open wireless connection at Al Volo, for you to live tweet if you would like to do so. If this is the case, please remember that the official hashtag is #aptw.

We’re looking forward to welcoming you tonite.

So you know what you’re going to get Laura (@lauradesign) at AperiTWeat tonight and rest assured those are all very nice drinks! We had a Menabrea yesterday when we went to Al Volo for a briefing, and if you can say no to good beer, well, you’re strange. Spritz is probably “The Drink” to have at a proper Italian Aperitivo and if you’re joining us make sure you try one (or two). Amaretto and Averna are two gorgeous drinks you can have towards the end of the evening, after the lovely (free!) Italian Food will have delighted you.

But what if you want to buy me (@gioias) a drink? All the above would do, but if you want to be 100% sure I suggest you try with a Prosecco or a Martini Bianco.

Prosecco

Prosecco is a crisp sparkling white wine with a slightly bitter aftertaste. In fact, Prosecco grapes are used to make two types of sparkling wine. They can be used to make spumante, a dry sparkling wine, or frizzante wines, which are semi-sparkling. The Frizzante variety is often enjoyed in traditional Italian Aperitivo.

Martini Bianco

Often served with ice and a slice of lemon, Martini Bianco (White Martini) is technically a vermouth (AKA vermut), which in turn is a sweet, aromatic wine, in between 16% and 21% ABV. Not to be confused with the 007 cocktail. You can have this one stirred, if you like.

(If you want to buy Matteo -@palmamod- a drink, just go for a Spritz. He won’t say no)

I’m already planning what to drink tomorrow, for two main reasons:
- you can get an idea of the Italian aperitivo’s to try out
- you know what to get me if you see me (I’m @lauradesign on Twitter)

My plan for tomorrow is starting off with Menabrea, Spritz, then Amaretto and Averna.

Let me tell you more about these drinks:

Menabrea
I’m sure you know the Italian Peroni beer, but you probably haven’t heard off Menabrea. It’s not a a mass produced beer and is the only Italian lager still brewed using a completely natural “slow fermentation”. We are really lucky that Alvolo has it!

Italian beer @ Alvolo

The Spritz
This drink is prepared with white wine or Prosecco wine, a dash of some bitter liqueur such as Aperol or Campari. It’s really popular in Italy, especially in the Veneto Region. It’s red like passion!

Amaretto
It is a sweet digestive made with almond. It does taste a little bitter but is sweet as well. Perfect with one ice cube! Amaretto put together the concept of Amore (love) and Amaro (bitter). Just to remind as that love is not always sweet. ☺ After a few Amaretto I’m sure you won’t care if love is sweet or bitter as long your Amaretto is there!

Italian digestive

Averna
Averna is only for a strong personality. An orangey tonic liqueur invented over 180 years ago in Italy and still made to the same recipe today. The recipe itself contains 33 herbs including gentian and cinnamon. Averna is sweet, thick and has a gentle herbal bitterness. It is 32% alc/volume and distilled and bottled in Italy. Averna is a classic digestif, often served on the rocks or neat.

Averna - sicilian Amaro

Do you have other Aperitifs that you like? Let us know!
Have fun tomorrow!
